Artwork / Projects > Resound

Resound, the artist uses the mollusc’s process of finding a new shell as a metaphor for their personal journey from Brazil to Canada and beyond. This journey has been shaped by adaptation, growth, and the need to embrace change. Just as a mollusc outgrows its shell and seeks a larger one, the artist has navigated unfamiliar environments, leaving behind the familiar to establish new forms of comfort. This metaphor extends beyond physical relocation to include the emotional and psychological transformations that come with significant life changes. The mollusc’s shell, as both a home and a form of protection, reflects the artist’s search for belonging and security.

Resound takes two forms: a virtual reality (VR) experience and a sound sculpture. In the sound sculpture, a house emits the sound of the sea, evoking a longing for the ocean, while a shell plays a recording of the artist’s home in Brazil during a rainy day. This connection between the two homes through sound creates a sensory bridge, uniting distant memories and environments.
